The Burgate School and Sixth Form recognised as Best Practice Representative within the Parliamentary Review

Representatives across a wide range of sectors come together in September’s Parliamentary Review to voice their strengths, challenges and expert opinions collectively. With the long-term future in mind, the review centres on securing the foundations for our future productivity by improving school standards, transforming technical education and delivering infrastructure for growth. These plans for the future are just some of the views echoed throughout The Review from leaders from across the country.

Success for educators across the nation does not always come easily, and The Parliamentary Review is indispensable for anyone who seeks to make a difference themselves in education. It highlights significant successes, developments and concerns for school leaders up and down the country.

The co-chairman of The Parliamentary Review, Lord Pickles, has praised the organisations featured in The Review. He commented that as Britain undergoes changes, it is “essential that politicians have a firm understanding of the challenges with which British organisations must contend” and that The Review once again provides a perfect platform for this.

Writing in The Review, Lord Blunkett says “that the education service continues to deliver for individuals, communities and of course for our nation.” Headteacher, David Pover said "I am delighted that we were chosen to represent best practice in schools. We have worked very hard to reach the very highest standards in education and we are thrilled to have this recognition."

A Message from Lord Pickles and Lord Blunkett, followed by The Burgate School and Sixth Form's best practice article

The ability to listen and learn from one another has always been vital in parliament, in business and in most aspects of daily life. But at this particular moment in time, as national and global events continue to reiterate, it is uncommonly crucial that we forge new channels of communication and reinforce existing ones. The following article from The Burgate School and Sixth Form is an attempt to do just that. We would welcome your thoughts on this or any other Parliamentary Review article.

Our School Vision

Welcome to The Burgate School and Sixth Form website. Our aim is to present you with a clear sense of our ethos and aspirations, whilst providing a wealth of information about our school.

The Burgate School and Sixth Form is a school that wants every student to enjoy their learning and feel valued for who they are. The school provides high quality comprehensive education for children aged between 11 and 18 and we enjoy an excellent reputation within the local community for our high standards. Consequently, many students attend the school through parental choice. We provide a broad curriculum and a creative approach to learning that inspires curiosity, builds collaboration, helps develop resilience and encourages flexibility of thought.

The School and Sixth Form has a very attractive site with extensive, well-kept grounds whilst all accommodation is in permanent buildings and each area is equipped to a high standard.  We are situated on the outskirts of Fordingbridge, in Hampshire and our catchment area is extensive, stretching beyond Salisbury to the north and approaching Ringwood to the south. We also serve many outlying village communities within this area with students reaching the school on well-established bus routes.

As a school, we are continually looking to build on our success. Collaboration to improve learning and teaching and consultation on change will ensure the on-going success of our school.  Whilst I believe that The Burgate already provides the best local education for girls and boys, our desire to be one of the top comprehensive schools nationally continues with great enthusiasm. In 2018 we were ranked third of all schools in Hampshire for the key benchmark of progress.

Our motto is: ‘Learning for Life.’

Our Vision is: 'We want every student to enjoy their learning and feel valued for who they are.'

Our Mission is: 'We provide a broad curriculum and a creative approach to learning that inspires curiosity, builds collaboration, helps develop resilience and encourages flexibility of thought.'

Our Values are:

A love of learning
Hard work and the pursuit of excellence
Exploration and enquiry

Fairness and honesty
Confidence and independence
Originality and creativity
