On Sunday 16th June, the heroic Mr Cakebread successfully completed the Salisbury Race for Men half marathon around Old Sarum. This multi-terrain race was on gravel tracks, grass tracks and the ramparts of the ancient Hill Fort.
Although a fairly seasoned half-marathon runner in the past, Mr Cakebread is (by his own admission) slightly out of shape and definitely the wrong side of 50. So why the mammoth challenge?
Mr Cakebread ran the half marathon to raise money to help to send a Burgate student team of volunteers to The Philippines 3rd – 19th July. The team will work with the Upskills Foundation in the community of Barangay 105, one of the poorest urban communities on the planet that exists on the dumpsites of dockland Manila. The team will do whatever they can to help out but plan to help increase their life chances by helping children and families improve their English language skills, helping out with food preparation and distribution, by supporting their education and healthcare programme.
Mr Cakebread has already raised over £700 for the project but would welcome further donations at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/MCManilaRun
