Year 11 students at The Burgate School have proven their dedication to achieve the very best GCSE results and consequently have beaten last year’s ‘basics’ measure (grade 4 or above in both English and Maths) by 5% to achieve a superb 83%. In English, 90% of Year 11 achieved at least a grade 4, with Maths close behind on 88%, both of which are way above the national average.
This year's headline figure of Attainment 8 is on a par with 2018 at 52.3 and we are very confident that our VA progress score will once again be ‘above average’. It is particularly encouraging to see a rise in the number of students who were entered for the traditional EBacc with 38% achieving at least a grade 4 and 26% a grade 5 in all these subjects – again a fantastic achievement.
More able students performed strongly with over 10% of all results at grade 9/8 (equivalent to A*+/A*). Some subjects had a particularly impressive haul such as Biology with 43% of all entries at Grades 9/8, Art with 53% Philosophy & Ethics with 27% and Physics with 22%.
Headteacher David Pover said, “I am especially pleased with the whole range of student results across all abilities and subjects, which is another improvement on previous years. This reinforces our recent excellent Ofsted inspection and strengthens our reputation as a first class school. More students than ever now have the opportunity to continue their education at a higher level. I wish them every success and urge them to maintain the ‘Burgate Standard’. The majority of our students will continue their education at our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rated Sixth Form.”
Our Head Girl and Head Boy also proved their worth with their examination results. Charlotte Packham gained a straight set of top grades with 7 Grade 8s and 2 Grade 7s, whilst our Head Boy Szymon Kocikowski gained 1 Grade 9, 3 Grade 8s and 5 Grade 7s. Szymon who waited until his parents arrived to open his results said: “Happiness has conquered my nerves. I am very proud of myself and everyone else. I’m really looking forward to continuing my academic journey in The Burgate Sixth Form and to hopefully achieving equally great grades.”
Head Girl Charlotte was beaming as she read her results: “Results day is here and the panic is finally over! I’m so happy with my results and I’m so glad to be able to celebrate with the teachers who have been there for me since day one. I’m also really looking forward to continuing my studies in the Burgate Sixth Form and seeing what the future brings!”
Jed Hayward (5 Grade 9s, 1 Grade 8, 3 Grade 7s and an A Grade in Further Maths) was shaking as he read his truly outstanding results: “I’m very surprised, I was really nervous before I opened them but this is just perfect.”
Ned Carter Owen (2 Grade 9s, 4 Grade 8s, 1 Grade 7 and an A* Grade in the HPQ) said;” I’m really happy with my results. Thanks to all of my teachers for their support especially Mr Rees.”
Lauren East was rightly thrilled with her grades: “I’m so proud of my results, they’re even better than I had hoped for. Thank you so much to Burgate and all of the teachers who have helped me achieve these grades. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Lottie Evans (5 Grade 8s and 4 Grade 7s) was delighted with her results: “I am thrilled with my results. I couldn’t have done it without all of the support from my teachers.”
Reflecting on all of the hard work, Tabby Pike explained: “I’m relieved with my results and couldn’t be happier.”
We congratulate all of our students on their tremendous achievements, which are a testament to the hard work and dedication they have shown throughout the last year.
