The Burgate Sixth Form is pleased to offer students the opportunity to participate in a residential educational visit to the Cote d’Azur in the South of France next September. The trip will take place in the Autumn Term and will last five days, departing first thing on Thursday 26th September and returning late on Monday 30th September.
Whilst on the Cote D’Azur we will be visiting a number of famous international destinations including Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Monte Carlo, the Cap Ferrat and Ventimiglia in Italy. There will even be time on the beach and the opportunity to dip your toes in the Mediterranean Sea. The centre point of our trip will be a visit to Cannes, the Hollywood of European cinema, including the Espace Miramar, le Croissette and the Film Murals. However, we will also be visiting Villefranche, which is of course famous as the gateway to the Cap–du-Ferrat and home to numerous movie stars.
This trip is open to all Sixth Form students to enrich their cultural diversity. However, for Media students it offers the additional opportunity to see locations featured in the TV Series Riviera, which we will be studying for Component Two of the Eduqas A-level. It will also provide a cultural context to their understanding of French New Wave cinema, as well as Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, the James Bond franchise and screen icons Brigitte Bardot and Grace Kelly. Whilst on the Riviera we will be taking in a number of well-known cultural landmarks including the Modern Art Gallery in Nice, the medieval old town: Vieux Nice, Place Rossetti and the Cathedral Sainte-Réparate. We also hope to provide students with a taste of inter-railing when we take the train over the Italian border to the frontier town of Ventimiglia.
Inevitably there will be the chance to appreciate the sites and landscapes that inspired Cézanne, Renoir, Matisse and Picasso. And, with this in mind, there will be opportunity for photography and film-making. We will also be spending an evening watching the super-yachts and Lamborghinis in the tax-free principality of Monaco, location of the famous Grand Prix and home to the Monte Carlo Casino. Our accommodation will be based in Nice close to the Promenade de Anglais, adjacent to shops and attractions. Most evenings will be spent practising our French, eating out in local restaurants and cafes. However, as the hostel has a kitchen we will also be visiting the supermarché and putting together a meal ourselves on at least one evening.
The cost of this trip is £580. This includes British Airways flights, transfers, hostel accommodation, buffet breakfast, and insurance. It does not include food (approximately 150 euro’s extra) or spending money. If you are currently at Burgate and would like to reserve a place for your son/daughter please complete the reply slip below and return it to Mrs Williamson in the Study Centre by 15th February; please also pay a deposit of £150 via the school gateway by this date. For those students joining us from other schools please email [email protected] to confirm your interest and post a cheque made payable to The Burgate School with the downloadable reply slip or hand in to Main Reception in an envelope marked Sixth Form Cote d’Azur.
This deposit is only refundable in the instance that the trip does not run. Installments of £150 will then need to be paid by 29th March, 26th April with a final balance of £130 due on 24th May. At this point I must inform you that payments for this visit are non-refundable. If you can resell your son/daughters place to another Burgate Sixth Form student then a refund can be made. If the place cannot be resold then any monies will be forfeit to cover the cost of the place that has been booked for your child. Refunds will only be considered in the event of a student having a medical reason/condition. In this occurrence, the refund may be covered by the school’s insurance policy. Places will be awarded on a first come first served basis: please be aware there are only 31 spaces. In view of travel uncertainty in the wake of the UK’s proposed departure from the EU on 29th March there may be a change to the £580 total cost due to additional costs for instance a charge for a visa or green card. Should this occur we will notify you as soon as possible.
